Executive leadership + equity + Cambridge HQ
We are working with a seed-stage biotech company based in Cambridge, MA, focused on pioneering next-generation gene editing platforms for rare genetic diseases. With a founding team of leading scientists and a small, growing team of around 40 employees, the company is seeking a Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to lead scientific strategy, drive innovation, and build the internal R&D team as they move toward IND-enabling studies.
As CSO, you will be responsible for shaping and executing the company’s scientific vision, overseeing preclinical research, and ensuring rigorous translation of research into development programs. This role requires close collaboration with the CEO, investors, and scientific advisory board, and offers significant influence over company direction and culture. The ideal candidate will be deeply involved in strategic partnerships, scientific communications, and future fundraising activities.
We are seeking a PhD or MD/PhD with 12+ years of experience in biotech, pharma, or academic leadership roles, with a strong background in gene editing, molecular biology, or rare disease research. Prior leadership experience building high-performing R&D teams and a successful track record of IND-stage program advancement are essential. Entrepreneurial mindset, strategic thinking, and a passion for advancing breakthrough science are key to success.
The company offers an executive-level compensation package including base salary, significant equity, and performance incentives. Located in the heart of Cambridge’s biotech ecosystem, the company embraces a collaborative, innovation-driven culture with hybrid working flexibility.
